CTR2-Quad

Price range: $130.00 through $140.00

STATUS UPDATE

February 2, 2026

I have 3 completed Quads left from the second batch. I have more PCBs coming. They should arrive by the end of the week. After these three units are sold, orders will go on back order until the new PCBs show up.

Try as I might, I just can’t get the shipping package for CTR2-Quad below 8 oz. For those that don’t ship a lot, 8 oz. is a “magic” number for USPS. Once a package crosses this threshold the shipping rate goes up. It’s only USD 0.35 for domestic shipping, but for international First Class, it’s a whopping USD 10!  For my international customers, I’ve had to add a special category for international shipping for CTR2-Quad, sorry!.

International customers have three options:

  1. Purchase the fully assembled and tested CTR2-Quad and select International Shipping. This adds USD 10 to the base price to cover the additional shipping charges.
  2. Buy a CTR2-Quad Upgrade Kit instead. This kit ships without an M5Dial so the shipping package is less than 8 oz. This kit is intended for current CTR2-Dial or CTR2-Flex hardware users that want to upgrade to the CTR2-Quad by just swapping the M5Dial from their old unit, but you can buy a M5Dial locally and put the kit together and save the extra shipping charge.
  3. Order your CTR2-Quad from Neil, G7UFO. He is gearing up to build and sell CTR2-Quads in his shop. He’s based in the UK so shipping costs are less for the UK and EU. He also offers a 3.7-volt battery option that I don’t offer due to shipping restrictions.

Thanks for your support and understanding!

73, Lynn

CTR2-Quad is the newest member of the CTR2 product line. With four programmable dual-function knobs, two programmable dual-function buttons, and separate jacks for CW paddles and your key and PTT switch, you’re sure to find the Quad to be the most useful accessory in your shack.

CTR2-Quad can run CTR2-Flex or CTR2-Dial firmware.

  • Select the firmware you’d like your unit to boot into upon delivery. You can change the boot firmware at any time from the Settings menu.

When running CTR2-Flex firmware, you can connect to, and control your Flex 6000/8000 series radio over WiFi using the Flex API. This mode is a true radio controller and includes a dashboard display where you can easily select and control many parameters on your radio. You can run any version of SmartSDR in parallel with CTR2-Quad. You can even have multiple CTR2-Uno, CTR2-Duo, or CTR2-Quad units connected to your radio at the same time, with each controlling a different slice.

When running CTR2-Dial firmware, the unit becomes a MIDI controller and can control any radio control app that supports MIDI control, including Marcus’ (DL8MRE) SmartSDR for iOS/MacOS, SDR-Control, FT-Control, TS-Control, and K4-Control. It can also be used with many Windows based control packages such as Thetis and SDR-Console, and many more. I have maps and configurations for various app here. I will be adding other 3rd-party apps to the configuration file as time permits.

NOTE: The  plastic knob style and color are subject to availability. You replace the supplied knobs with any knob of your choice that accepts a 6mm knurled shaft.

Description

Unlike CTR2-Dial firmware or CTR2-MIDI which are one-way MIDI controllers, CTR2-Quad, running CTR2-Flex firmware connects directly to your Flex radio using the Flex API over WiFi and works with all Windows, Mac, and iOS versions of SmartSDR. In fact, it can even work along side other CTR2-Uno, CTR2-Duo, or CTR2-Quad units connected to your radio with each controlling a different slice.

CTR2-Flex firmware does not support SmartLink. For remote operation with SmartLink you can boot it into CTR2-Dial firmware* and use it as a MIDI controller with SmartSDR for iOS/MacOS.

CTR2-Quad includes a touchscreen display that doubles as a control surface offering virtual Dials and Buttons that allows you to easily change the frequency and settings on your radio. The Dashboard page brings all of the controls to a compact, easy to navigate control page.

CTR2-Flex firmware has a built-in keyer and sidetone. All models support CW paddle input so you can connect your CW paddle to operate CW over your network connection. CTR2-Quad has a separate 3.5mm (1/8″) stereo jack to connect your straight-key (or external keyer) and a PTT switch.

The three small knobs on CTR2-Quad are detent (bumpy) type because these knobs are typically used for volume, squelch, RIT, and DSP control. The large knob is a no-detent (smooth) encoder because it’s typically used for VFO control. Turn and push-and-turn actions on each knob can be assigned two of the Dial functions. The build-in pushbuttons on each of the knob can also be assigned to two Button functions when using short and long-press button actions.

CTR2-Quad is only available in a 3D printed enclosure.

NOTE: The M5Dial has a built-in 12-detent encoder that is not counted in the knob count but it can be assigned a to dial function.

* This unit ships with CTR2-Flex v2 firmware. This firmware can boot into CTR2-Flex or CTR2-Dial. The firmware boot option can be selected in the Settings menu.
