To eliminate confusion over CTR2-Flex hardware and CTR2-Flex firmware, the CTR2-Flex dual-encoder units have been rebranded as CTR2-Duo. There is no change in the hardware. CTR2-Duo runs the CTR2-Flex/CTR2-Dial dual-boot firmware.

  • Select the type of enclosure from the options below. You can select the commercial, New Age injection molded, CNC machined enclosure or the 3D printed enclosure.
  • Select the firmware you’d like your unit to boot into on delivery. You can change the boot firmware at any time from the Settings menu.

When running CTR2-Flex firmware, you can connect to, and control your Flex 6000/8000 series radio over WiFi using the Flex API. This mode is a true radio controller and includes a dashboard display where you can easily select and control many parameters on your radio. You can run any version of SmartSDR in parallel with CTR2-Duo.

When running CTR2-Dial firmware, the unit becomes a MIDI controller and can control any radio control app that supports MIDI control, including Marcus’ (DL8MRE) SmartSDR for iOS/MacOS, SDR-Control, FT-Control, TS-Control, and K4-Control. It can also be used with many Windows based control packages such as Thetis and SDR-Console, and many more.

Please enter your call sign in the Add a note to your order section on the Checkout page so I can create your registration key.

Also, if you’re planning on using CTR2-Duo in CTR2-Dial (MIDI) mode with a radio control app such as SmartSDR for iOS/MacOS, let me know which app you’re running in the Add a note to your order section on the checkout page and I’ll load that app’s configuration into your unit. This way, you’ll  only need to import your app’s MIDI map from the CTR2-Dial Configuration Files page to be ready to go.

You can find the list of control apps I have configurations for, and the map files for them, on the configuration files page.

If you don’t specify a control app configuration, your unit will ship configured for SmartSDR for iOS/MacOS.

Description

CTR2-Duo includes a touchscreen display that doubles as a control surface offering virtual Dials and Buttons that allows you to easily change the frequency and settings on your radio. The Dashboard page brings all of the controls to a compact, easy to navigate control page.

CTR2-Flex firmware has a built-in keyer and sidetone. CTR2-Flex firmware does not support SmartLink. For remote operation with SmartLink you can boot it into CTR2-Dial firmware* and use it as a MIDI controller with SmartSDR for iOS/MacOS.

All models support CW paddle input so you can connect your CW paddle to operate CW over your network connection. The CW paddle input jack can also be used for a straight-key (or external keyer) and a PTT switch.

NOTE: Keying operation with CTR2-Dial firmware is dependent on the radio control app’s support for paddles, keying, and PTT.

The knobs on CTR2-Duo are detent (bumpy) type because these knobs are typically used for volume, squelch, RIT, and DSP control. Each knob can be assigned to a separate Dial functions. The build-in pushbuttons on each of the knobs can be assigned to two Button functions when using short and long-press button actions.

NOTE: The M5Dial has a built-in 12-detent encoder that is not counted in the knob count but it can be assigned a to dial function.

* This unit ships with CTR2-Flex v2 firmware. This firmware can boot into CTR2-Flex or CTR2-Dial. The firmware boot option can be selected in the Settings menu.
